Hosting on GitLab Pages
This website and the PDFs are delivered via GitLab Pages, a service of GitLab B.V. and GitLab Inc. (USA). Every time you visit, GitLab stores server logs with your IP address, the time of access and the pages you requested. According to GitLab, these logs are deleted on a rolling basis after 7 days. A website cannot be delivered technically without this processing; the legal basis is our legitimate interest in a secure and working website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
GitLab may transfer data to the USA and relies on the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework for this. Details are in GitLab's privacy statement (section "GitLab Pages Data").
No cookies, no tracking
The website sets no cookies and uses no analytics or advertising services. There are no contact forms, comments or user accounts.
Fonts
The fonts (Fraunces and Source Sans 3) are on the same server as the website. No connection is made to Google Fonts or any other outside server when you visit. All images, maps and PDFs also come from the same server.
Favourites and view – only in your browser
If you mark plants as favourites or switch between the card and table view, the website remembers this in your browser's local storage (localStorage). This information doesn't leave your device and isn't sent to us or to GitLab. You can delete it at any time by removing the site data in your browser. Storing it is strictly necessary for the function you asked for (§ 25(2) no. 2 TDDDG, the German Telecommunications Digital Services Data Protection Act).
Filters on the overview page are part of the page's address. They are only evaluated in your browser; when such an address is requested, it ends up in GitLab's server logs like any address.
Links to other websites
The Viridothek links to sources, to Wikimedia Commons (photos) and to Creative Commons (licences). Only when you click such a link do you leave this website; the privacy policy of that provider then applies.
Your rights
You have the right to information about your data stored by us, to correction, deletion and restriction of processing, to data portability and to object to processing (Art. 15 to 21 GDPR). Contact the address given above for this. You can also complain to a data protection supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR). Please note: the server logs are held by GitLab, and we ourselves cannot link IP addresses to any person.
